City of Charlestown Redevelopment Commission Announces First Round of Small Business Grant Recipients

Monday, October 19th 2020 - Charlestown, IN - The first round of grants to benefit local small businesses was submitted by a special committee and approved tonight at a special meeting of the Charlestown Redevelopment Commission.

The City of Charlestown Redevelopment Commission approved 11 grants for a total of $105,000 in funding as part of the recently established Small Business Grant Program. This program was made possible using a grant awarded to the City of Charlestown from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs in the amount of $250,000. The maximum grant allowed per business is $10,000.

The city has received a number of applications, and will be reviewing additional applicants in the weeks ahead as preparations are made to award a second round of funding. Businesses who applied and have not yet been awarded should not be discouraged as the selection committee works through the process. Anyone who has not yet applied is encouraged to do so immediately - applications are due Friday, October 30th 2020.

"I'm grateful to the selection committee and Redevelopment Commission for approving these grants. Our small business owners make up the backbone of our community and they have suffered great economic hardship in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Mayor Treva Hodges.

"These grants will help them keep their doors open and, I hope, will help ease the strain a little. These businesses support our community, they donate to our little league, sponsor local events like Founder's Day, and are often the first to give to local charitable organizations - its great to be able to give back to them for a change, and show them how much we value their service to our city."

Any business located in the City of Charlestown who has experienced economic distress as a result of the pandemic is encouraged to reach out for assistance with the application process. Applications are available in the lobby at City Hall, and may also be requested by email or phone call to Jill Saegesser, The Wheatley Group: Jill@TheWheatleyGrp.com, or 502-296-6202.
